If he is interested in playing high end games he should either get vista or WIN7 for DX10

You can do a 'custom upgrade' or something, where it upgrades to W7 and then all your XP files get moved to a place called windows.old. when its done upgrading you can just move all the files back out if you want.

reformat then install=clean install, not upgrade.

What your doing is a in-place upgrade or repair install, this give the user a new OS and while all of the stuffs are moved to the ".old" folder, you will still need to install every program.

This does not count as a upgrade.

Dont worry about the OS, if someone could throw some ideas around that would be great.

Price in AUD
CPU: Intel Core i5 750---------------------------$243
Motherboard: Asus P7P55-LX--------------------$136
RAM: G.Skill RipJaw 4GB (kit) DDR3 1600-----$131
GPU: HIS HD5770--------------------------------$189
Optical Drive: Sony DVD-RW SATA-------------$39
HDD: WD 808G-----------------------------------$75
PSU: Seasonic 700w------------------------------$177
Case:CM HAF932----------------------------------$206

$1196

The HAF932 is a full tower case, you place this on the floor.
For placing it on the desk, it's the HAF 922.

CM HAF922----$165
If your going with the HAF922 then the total will be $1155

Keyboard, mouse, monitor are not included.
Add a monitor?

Samsung 2333SW+------$195

HAF932 w/monitor=$1391
HAF922 w/monitor=$1350

For keyboard and mouse, just get something cheap.
And that HD size is incorrect, it's most likely a 500GB since 808G don't exist.
