So my computer is using a DVI chord but however my monitor only uses VGA...i found some thing that has both vga/dvi on both sides and i tried connecting to the monitor but it wont work?
Anyways i can connect it?

| Yes, those come with new video cards for a reason. Though I assume what you have is the reverse of that adapter (see male/female ends).

well the one i posted it what i have...shouldnt that i be using an adapater with dvi female since the chord needs to plug into the adapter then adapter to monitor?

DVI can carry digital and analog data
VGA can only carry analog data
video cards' DVI port usally streams out both digital and analog data, thats why you can convert the port to VGA
video cards' VGA port only streams out analog data, a VGA-DVI adapter only streams analog data via analog section of the DVI connector. (so if your monitor doesn't support analog data, it just wont work.)
also, VGA to DVI then to HDMI won't work either because HDMI is for digital data only

Just use that converter you posted a pic of. Looks like you plug the dvi end into the pc and connect the vga end between the converter and monitor. Easy as pie.

No, the converter the OP posted wouldn't work, they'd need the inverse with the male DVI and female VGA.

No, the converter the OP posted wouldn't work, they'd need the inverse with the male DVI and female VGA. | oh. I didnt really look. He can buy the cable or a similar one like I posted. Its not expensive and it will save him a hundred bucks from buying a monitor with a DVI port.

| I've only ever seen them come with a male DVI end, to plug directly into the card. However, if it came with your video card it should work fine.
