I jailbroke my iPod touch on my Win7 x64 just yesterday. You have to open them with WinRAR in order to do what you need to do to jailbreak them. Or if you are actually trying to restore your iPod, you need to set it to DFU mode, then iTunes will recognize that it is in restore mode and you hold shift and click restore, then you select the ispw file.

Download the ispw file, keep it as an ispw file, go to DFU mode, hold shift, click restore, find the ispw file. However, I'm not so sure you can downgrade so easily.

I tried doing that but everyone loads it up as an RAR file so its more compact (less in actual size) to download.

...So you use WinRAR to extract the ispw file from the .rar. I don't see the problem here.

you're not extracting a rar, you're extracting the bloody ipsw... :/

look at the file extension, it's ipsw, but you can still extract the files from it since an ipsw is just an archive. IF that's not the case (even though it is), go download one that's not archived...

actually i've heard of some people downloading ipsw's and them saving as zip files (since that's what they pretty much are), if that happens then just rename the extension to ipsw. if .plist and .dmg files come out when you extract then this is what's happening.

I think im starting to understand what you guys are saying, when i download it form the website, it's alreayd in the ipsw format? so i dont have to extract it? i was only extracting it because it comes as 3 books (RAR file) on my XP computer it shows up as a cube with the apple sign all over it, I`ll try again, thanks guys.

EDIT: THAT FILE COMES IN A ZIP FILE. SO YOU HAVE TO EXTRACT IT?! from that website felix or whatever, he postd up there.

When the file icon is the lego-like piece with the Apple logo, it is an ispw file.

It seems that on his computer, the program associated with the .ispw file is WinRAR for whatever reason. Therefore they don't have the Apple logo, but instead the WinRAR logo.

Same with mine when downloading it. It's because you have to use WinRAR to edit the ispw file in order to jailbreak.
