Hi all,
I have been using a Sony VAIO laptop for the past 3 years to do all my Photoshop work. I do weddings and process hundreds of images from each wedding. My current laptop only has 2GB memory and this is where it is lacking. Often the memory almost max's out when heavily loaded, e.g. running an automated batch in CS2 with another couple of programs open. I am very happy with the X-Black screen on this laptop, which when calibrated, has given me excellent results and I can very confidently do all photo adjustments without hesitation using this screen. The graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400.
Now I am very keen to upgrade my laptop and have seen one on sale at a very good price. It is mostly the same except for faster processor, 4GB RAM, larger hard drive, but.... it only has an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (with no dedicated memory - memory is taken from the 4GB of RAM as required) and not a dedicated graphics card. Now it is clear that this laptop would be pretty poor for gaming, but my sole purpose for this laptop is processing photos in Photoshop (CS2, will upgrade to CS4), Adobe Bridge and in the future possibly Lightroom. So in my limited computer knowledge, I think it should be okay in terms of the limited graphics capability. I would very much welcome some comments from those more knowledgeable and experienced in this field as to whether I am overlooking something or not. Bottom line is I want this to be a portable, photo processing machine as its primary purpose and will not be playing any games on it.
Thanks in advance!

Most of the actual processing work (i.e. rendering effects such as radial blur) is done by the processor; a good mobile quad core would be ideal, but a low voltage (25w TDP) dual core would much better suit the mobile mogul for power consumption vs. performance. I'm not sure if Photoshop CS2 features OpenGL GPU acceleration, but if it does (CS4 features OpenGL GPU acceleration), you might benefit from a dedicated graphics card.
