I have a ten year old ASUS laptop which still has a bit of nanny juice in it.

Specs of a 1.6Ghz OC P4 , 256Mb of RAM and a ATI Radeon M7 in it.

VGA seems to support 1080i, and teh M7 seems to support it too

It plays DVD oh so well

But it doesnt have a Blu-ray player

And also it doesnt have a Blu-ray software to play bluary titles.

buy a new dedicated bluray player, well that just defeats the purpose of a htpc.
