|
|
I have a linksys WRT4G and I want to know if it's possible if I can limit the bandwidth speed for a certain computer or for the entire wireless network.
Like, I want to cap the wireless at a certain speed (kb/s) but want my computer (directly connected) to stay unlimited.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

It's pretty limited in terms of wireless QoS, though wired is full featured.

I don't think linksys makes a WRT4G, are you sure it's not a WRT54G? If so, there are several badass firmware mods you can load it with to support tons more features and such. I'm sure there's something with which you can limit it.

@Slovach: Do you have a guide for the QoS? I tried messing with it, I don't think it worked so well.
@Zarr: Yeah. That's what I mean. Thanks, I'll look into those.

I think that sort of QoS option is limited to newer routers. Give Tomato a try.

@Karakawe: I just downloaded Tomato. I've got the files and followed the steps. Whenever I try to select "WRT54G_WRT54GL.bin" and hit upgrade, it'll give me a prompt saying "UPDATE ARE FAILED" (yes, "are") and it happens with all the other .bin files.
Any suggestions?

Be sure you're using the exact correct file for the custom firmware. A WRT54G v5 is not the same as a WRT54GS v5, nor is a WRT54G v6 and WRT54G v7, etc. Look on the bottom of the router below the linksys logo in the upper left corner for something similar to "WRT54G ver. 5"; what does it say?
