Well i recently got the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 and its good and all keeps temps of my Q8200 at 40-43 idle and only 50 at load. But the one thing I just don't know much about is thermal grease. I have been using Artic Silver MX-2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186020
And it seems to work fine but plus shipping that's like 15 bucks and money is tight right now. Any other cheaper solution that's just as good or is better? _________________

put a rice sized bit in the middle and let the heatsink spread it.
if you really feel the need to check, yank it off and check contact. |

Like I tried this i tried listening to the whole "Rice sized or pea sized thing" Its not enough like my temps go into like 60s idle lol. I did like a small rice grains on the copper pipes on the contact part and thats how i got my current temps. Also i ran out of my grease yesterday. I bought it about a half a year ago. _________________

Contact was fine, im pretty sure it was too little. But what im doing now is fine I mean its not too much and definitely is working. So basically i just need to buy some more compound. _________________

If a larger-than-rice-sized amount of TIM is required to keep the CPU at decent temps then you might want to consider lapping your HSF. Remember, it's only there to fill the microscopic pores between the CPU and HSF, not to create a cushion or anything similar.
You could also try to manually spread the TIM around a bit with your finger (through an uncontaminated glove or glove-like-object, such as a plastic baggie; don't need your skin oils to screw with the contact) if it's not spreading to all four corners of the CPU surface. _________________
