The first HD5970 reviews have hit the net. Price/performance looks linear over the price/performance of the HD5870. It's going to run for about the same price as the GTX 295 while offering much better performance. However, it does draw more power than it, and is a full 30cm/12" long (although none of those should be a problem with an enthusiast EATX system.). Clock speeds at stock and overclockability falls short of what the HD5870 offers, although it is a good card nonetheless.

The HD5970 is a dual gpu card, so it drawing more power isn't a surprise.

Well shit.

It weights over 1kg. Being able to jack the core frequency to whatever I want is pretty enticing, but that $600 price point completely turns of me off. =\

It's like the PS3 price announcement at E3 all over again...

About 3-4 years ago a single gpu card starts out at $600
For a video card to have 2 gpus and start out at $600 is consider cheap.

it's $600 because it's basically double the performance of a $300 card. you're getting what you pay for.

it looks to be VERY overclockable, don't know what OP means.
HardOCP went from 725 / 1000 stock to 900 / 1350 with simple software voltage tweaking.

24% difference in engine speed alone. ffff

Yeah I know, but $600 for just a gfx card is a bit more than I can handle.

I'll probably just grab a 5850 when I build my next rig either this Christmas break, or next year during summer holidays.

@slovach: I was probably thinking of the HD5770 (~950 core at stock volts).

AMD's lineup is still a bit expensive IMO. Price to performance is not that great around the HD5750/5770 vs. the GTX 260 (although the former offers DX11, lower power usage, etc).TSMC needs to fix its 40nm yield issues.
