Once you install the hard drive into the enclosure, the first thing you should do is format it. You don't need to touch the BIOS, because yes it would be considered a USB Device, which is designed for hot swap ability. SATA is better then IDE. _________________

They usually come pre-partitioned, NTFS or FAT32 (depending on the "compatibility" level with Macs). A quick format to your preferred disk format would be easy to do, however unnecessary unless you encounter incompatibilities because of the file systems. SATA > IDE, and they're "hot-swappable" so as long as you disable write caching (if you don't want to remove the device correctly). _________________
