You're supposed to have multiple ones. There is some command you can put in CMD to see what each one is doing. There is typically one that uses significantly more memory than the others, and that one controls like 8 different services. If you kill the process, a bunch of things will stop working momentarily until it automatically starts back up again.

Baaaaaaaad idea. If someone doesn't know what can or should be turned off it can crash the computer or disable functions (for example the internet connection) that he/she might need. And ppl who are fixing computers know what can happen if an unexperienced user is messing with system settings.

It's normal to have many svchost.exe, unless it is located OUTSIDE C:\Windows\System32, or any Subfolders inside System32. It should be IN C:\Windows\System32. Nothing else. If you find one Outside/Subfolder of System32, you're in Bad Luck.

Some of us know what to do :) Some ppl like "bare bones" configurations for ultra fast boot and so on. For example, why would anyone use UDP if there's TCP, which provides way more functionalty? Because sometimes speed is important and bloat isn't needed.

But many ppl don't, so telling them to turn off services, without telling them which services can be turned off without causing trouble and which ones can't be is a bad idea. Besides you advised Hitman to turn off services that are related to svchost.exe, but most of these services are necessary.

UDP is the bare bones version -> way faster. TCP provides more error checking stuffs etc. Both have their pros and cons.
Sorry if my post was hard to understand. IMO the word because (clearly?) refers to that one should use UDP, instead of TCP, if speed is important. Maybe you should re-read the post, not raeg? :)

Most, not all. For example, Adobe Version Cue, iPod service Bonjour (iTunes), Google update, etc...
Need I list all the services and startup programs I disabled?

Ah yes, I just misread. I took it to mean you thought TCP was less bloated and faster (which is horribly wrong), and not just as a reply to the question. Sorry about that.

Well, I assumed that he knows what he's doing, because he asked such an advanced question. If he asks how to do thing X, why not tell him how to do thing X?
