i got Norton antivirus 2010 today. i got the 3-user package, it was on sale. i was wondering, when the subscription runs out on my computer, could i install again as a second user?

NO...

The simple reason being that once you activate the first one the rest will end when the first one ends....

P.S... There is a reason why it is on sale... Because it is worse that clamwin

I know this is kinda off-topic, but buying Norton wasn't a very good idea. Next time you should stick with Avira, Kaspersky or ESET.
