My dads friend gave us this really old computer, well it seems to be from the case
When I plugged it in and everything
and tried to turn it on nothing happened
no fans spinning NOTHING at all

I even did the little PSU on/off switch at the back but It still didnt turn on

How would I know its the PSU and nothing else thats causing the trouble

99.9% of the time, when you receive a computer or any computer parts, they're either broken, hanging by a thread or have other stability issues.

Forget about testing it and gunk that crap in the trash.

If you still want to then grab another PSU or jump start the original to see if the fan spins or not.

But doing so and see the fan spin does not mean it's a good PSU.

Ok but thats kind of the point because its old
and I would like to know whats causing it because IF it is the PSU I want to replace it
so I can replace it

otherwise its a good simple computer someone can use
you just dont junk everything that does not seem to work

Before actually spending you $, check and see if any of the caps are blown off or have a convex top.

One or more of the three is broken: CPU, PSU, mobo. The only way to see which ones are broken and which ones aren't, would be to replace them.

I opened it up and I can't see any green LED on the MOBO or the front of the case
I'm guessing it could mainly be the power supply?

Again, it could be any of those three. Those are the three core components that no computer can run without. The only way to test it is to replace the parts with others and see if it works then. First, take everything out of the computer except the mobo, CPU, PSU, and RAM (modern motherboards come with a tiny amount of really slow onboard RAM. I don't know about older motherboards, but I doubt that is your problem). Then, find another computer in your house, make sure it is of the same CPU socket type. Then, try putting the PSU into the other computer and see if it turns on. If it does, your PSU is fine. If it doesn't, then your PSU is broken. But that may not be the only thing that is broken. Put the other PSU back, and test the CPU. Take out the CPU in the other computer, and put in the one you are testing. If it turns on...you get the point. Then try the same thing with motherboard. Come back and post results.

Sadly i dont have another computer with the same socket type as this one is quite old

It uses 20pin PSU
But I'll try getting a new PSU and replacing it with that too see if that works

Almost all 24-pin mobo connectors are 20+4-pin precisely for that reason. But I was talking about CPU socket type.
