How do you know it can't find the HDD?

What exactly does the error say?

Open up your case and make sure the cable didn't get unplugged (extremely unlikely, the things are bitches to get on and off to start). Unplug and replug it in.

I refuse to believe you did that in that short amount of time. You must have really easy cables.

Go into BIOS and make sure that you have the HDD selected as the Primary Hard Disk.

I never thought this would actually help... Try plugging in the drive into another computer.

Another reason could be that your drive was corrupted. It's no longer NTFS, but RAW (maybe, correct if wrong).

Ok, but his is SATA.

XP doesn't have native SATA support. If your disc is newer, it might have an option to install SATA support in the beginning of the installation (I think you hit f12 or something, not sure).

Some situations will occur on SATA drives as well.

Plug the "broken" drive into your current computer (the one you are using now, I assume)

Well then you must have accidentally installed SATA support the other times, because I know that you have to do it separately.

But don't worry, this is good. This means your disc comes with the option to install SATA support.
