Looking into buying a laptop/notebook.
Price range: $1000 USD and under.
Preferred features: DVD+CD Burner, decent RAM, and good video card.

But I really do want to stress this, does it HAVE to be a notebook/laptop? I mean you could really build or get a kick-ass desktop with with 1k right now.

I agree. With $1000, you could get as top-of-the-line as top-of-the-line gets. I mean, my computer was a little over half that, and it can play just about all modern games on highest graphics.

I gave him what he asked for good video card, decent ram. But to me buying a expensive laptop is dumb anyway, unless you REALLY go a lot of places.

Very. That laptop atleast has a gfx card that can play some games.
But why a laptop? a desktop is so much easier to do stuff on. Not to mention your boys wont get over heated.

I would suggest a Ion Netbook if you want to game.
It has a weak processor though.
It's basically a nVidia GeForce 9400M welded onto an Atom processor. Amazingly good GPU for a netbook. 1GB of DDR3 RAM, but I am going to assume that it is upgradeable to at least 2GBs, which is more than enough for whatever you're going to do on a netbook anyways.

Although I disagree with his method of getting the point across, I agree with him in what he is saying.
Laptops are not meant for gaming. Core i7 laptops are just silly, and their battery lasts less than an hour. If you want to game, you're going to need a mouse. In order to use a mouse, you're going to need a surface (like a desk). You're not going to really game anywhere other than your house (unless you take your laptop everywhere and you like taking a mouse along too). Therefore, almost all the time you would game, would be on a desk (most likely the same desk every time) at your house.
Exactly where you would put a desktop.

Although a PC is okay as well, I'd prefer a laptop, due to it's mobility.

spend 400-450 on a laptop 200-300 for a netbook, rest to desktop
and since black friday is coming up, IT IS possible.

Why would you get a laptop AND a netbook, and a desktop?
IMO, get a weak netbook (for browsin the web with a long battery life for ACTUAL mobility), and a super good desktop with the $800 you have left.
