|

Hey
I have been building a rig for a while now and i currently have:
Asus P5Q-PRO
4 GB of Corsair ram
my friend offered his old no-name ram because i recently upgraded to 64-bit, i was wondering if the different timing in his ram would mess up my motherboard because i have heard stories of this happening but i thought i would ask you guys.
thank you for your time

You shouldn't mix ram, even if they are ok together. Mixing new ram with the a pc that was store built works, but I think its a bad idea on home made. Ram usually has 3 different timings on them, and most can be set in the bios to auto, so they sync up.

Just know that, if the RAM he gives you is worse than your current RAM, it will all perform like the lesser RAM.
It's like a chain, only as strong as its weakest link.

Do corsair make their own psu? | No, the buy other companies' PSUs and resell them with their name on it.
Of course they make their own PSUs and memory, what else would they do? And that's a completely off topic and random question. You could alternatively go to their website, http://corsair.com/

Corsair actually don't make their own PSU. The ODM (original design manufacture) for Corsair are Seasonic and CWT (Channel Well).
Same with ram, does Corsair make their own rams?
Well most of us who buys Corsair will most likely go with the higher-end like Dominator which has a heat spreader. If the heat spreader is pry opened, will the ram chip itself still say Corsair on it or say something else like Samsung, Micron, Winbond or what?
Even if it says "Corsair" on it and Corsair itself could make their own PCBs, I doubt they will also make their own ram chips.
Now I'm not going against Corsair or anything, since there are other ram makers who does the same thing.

Corsair makes their own PSUs, and their RAM, I don't know what you're talking about. You're rambling, and you've also hijacked this thread.

I'm just trying to get my point across so the OP won't be worrying if his friend's ram may destroy his system due to a different brand name.
