|
|
my friends downloaded a windows7 os which is 2.73 GB
we couldn't find a DVD-writer anywhere and our USBs are only 1 GB
so is it possible to split the 2.73 GB os installation files to multiple CDs?
example: you boot from a CD then it says insert disl 2 to continue...
just like installing games from CDs with disk 1 and disk to...
but in this case we want to install an os so we need to split the 2.73 GB into 4-5 CDs...
what we want to do: instead of burning it into 1 DVD we want to burn it into multiple CDs (disk1, disk2, disk3, disk4......)

If you could, you would have to make the installer ask for disc 2.

MS let you order Vista on a CD package for those who does not have a DVD drive.
If it can be done with Vista, I don't see how it can't be done with Win7.
edit:
Just found the solution, you can split Win7 to CDs.

Split .rar it into 700MB files.
Insert CDs into computer and take them all out.
Extract the .iso from the split .rars.
Mount it onto daemon tools.

You don't understand what he want's.
He wants the actual installation of Windows 7 on multiple CD's.
He doesn't want to extract then mount...

Obviously, but it has been stated multiple times that there is no CD version of Win7 as of now, so I proposed to an alternate solution to his problem.

Honestly I would just not be a cheep ass, and go buy a DVD-RW drive.
(They cost like $20AUD for a good one here.)
And then buy some DVDs and burn to that.

 | You do realize that that worluldn't work simply because the installer wasn't made to support multiple disc installations.

Archive .iso, split archive into 650-700MB files, extract archive, extract .iso, run setup.exe.

Or extract the iso first, that would be faster in the long run if used more than once.

Splited the entire Windows 7 disc to multiple CDs.
Depending on the edition you're using the number of disc varies.
I tried Windows 7 starter and it uses 6CDs, while Windows 7 Pro splits to 9 discs.
As you can see in the image below, by testing out the split disc for install of Win7 starter, the installer does ask for the additional disc.
In conclusion, this means you have no idea what your talking about.
