Run a 64-bit OS. Or 32-bit OS with PAE 36-bit extension, although 64-bit is the way to go nowadays.

Uhm, I have a question which is similar to this one. I have 4gb ram in my pc, and windows recognized it, but it only uses 3.25. Yes I do have a 64bit OS. Does someone know why this could be happening?

A few possible reasons other than a bad ram...

1. The chipset itself is limited to 4GB of ram, when this is the case, there's nothing you can do except for changing a board that goes beyond 4GB.
e.g. Intel 945P is hardware limited to 4GB.

2. Memory Remap Feature is not enabled. When this feature is disabled, no matter how much ram you have 4/8/16/32 or 128GB, your 64bit OS will not be able to see all of your ram.
