Ran CPU Burn-in on a laptop that was overheating and it never completed the test. Temp was about 90C.
Did some basic cleaning and try again and it didn't work, have to basically take apart the entire laptop just to get to the cooling system and found out the exhaust on the inside was clogged thick layer of dust, and the thermal paste was also dried up.
Clean out dust, apply a clean layer of thermal paste and put the whole thing back together.
Ran cpu burn in and this time it pass the test running cool temp. 36C on full load and 27C on idle.

I've got a really good method of removing dust from a computer in a smokers home. When they bring it to me, I open it up, look at the dust, then throw it in the trash.
But seriously, if you smoke stay away from your computer. 10x worse then just dust. Over time you get a layer of sticky mucus type shit from the smoke. And mix that with dust and it's just fucking nasty looking, smelling, and most tech shouldn't and probably wont touch it.

My fans in the back over time accumulate wads of dust that cause them to struggle, giving them a nice WHRRRRRrrrrr WHERRRRR whrrrrrrr whWRRRrrr noise.
All I have to do is wipe it with a cloth.
I've also had my case open for 4+ years because last build I was just too fkin lazy to ever put it on and this time it literally does not fit thanks to my heatsink. I need a new one. Not a lot of dust seems to actually accumulate inside though.

| I cleaned out my fathers pc after 2 years. It had a layer of dust so thick on the heatsink you could use it as a cloth. I mean it was super thick. CO2 couldn't even make it budge. I had to rip apart the whole pc and clean the heatsink. It had one of them xclamps that isnt held except by the sink its self so it moved when i unscrewed it.

Cleaned my computer a couple days ago when I opened it to do some upgrades.
There was so much shit in there that the RAM stick I put in couldn't connect properly.
Anyhow, I have this bottle called Dust Off! or something. It blows out air mixed with some alcohol. You can probably find them at the dollar store and they're really good too.
You can probably use 1 can like 2-4 times before it runs out at least.

| I use dust cleaner from walmart in the electronics. Works decent. If the dust is really really thick though, it wont work as well. I mean uber thick.

I've got this Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop, which has a CPU (and probably other hardware) meant for desktop computers. Thing was pretty much a beast, started running warm so I cleaned out the dust and it still runs pretty warm (upwards to 70C with load). Great sound and monitor resolution (1680x1050), too.
