DID YOU CHECK OUT THAT DATES ON THESE ARTICLES?
Did you even read the entire thing?
You need a .exe on your computer before your can get viruses from jpegs.
And if they can get a .exe on your computer, why are they even bothering going that far?
Basically the .exe is the planted bomb and the jpeg is the trigger?
Genius...?
Maybe i don't fully understand it enough, but that doesn't sound that interesting.

It is...if they turn an .exe virus into a .jpg file, then you download the image, then you turn it back into an .exe and run it.

You can get a virus from anything if what program reading said thing is not made completely properly (for example, a web browser).

An img cannot do it on it's own I gues. Just becuase you rename the extension doesn't mean it know how to turn it back and run itself.

Some images can have the size of 100kb on them and then when you download it the image's file size goes up.
I don't know if that goes along the line of a virus... But I assume that it does.

Malware can be hidden in any form, and, in the matter of images, it depends on what type of vulnerability it exploits in order to execute dangerous code.
Don't be so narrow minded - there's easier ways to spread malware than through images. The vulnerability notably used by the Conficker worm, which was patched and disclosed by Microsoft a year ago (October 2008), would simply require the end-user have the NetBIOS service enabled (Which is enabled by default in current releases of Windows XP). By sending a specially crafted message, users could instantly be infected.
