| Well you could get an older geforce card from the last year and it will run games from this year. My dads pc uses a geforce 7200 and it handles games on unreal 3 engine fine.

It's not the RAM limiting the performance, I guarantee you. The speed between DDR1 and DDR2 in negligible at best, as is the difference between DDR2 and DDR3.
For $100, I'd get an HD4850. The card was a good deal when it started at $200-250 last year, so the price/performance ratio today is amazing.
What's your PSU, OP?

Not having a high enough PSU could hurt your entire pc. You wanna pay 50 - 100 bucks to have a video card bust, be my guest.

Actually the 8600 GT can run directly off the power supply that the pci-x16 has.

I'd at least consider hero's advice, He isn't just tooting his own horn, I have had PSUs fail before its not a cool sight or a good feeling. So it'd be safe to have at least the minimum standard.

If there is one thing you want to go overboard with, it's the PSU. You can always use it again in your next build, and if it fails chances are you are going to have to replace other parts anyways.
With that in mind, get either the 650W or 750W Corsair PSU. You can't go wrong.
