Well hello again, some of you may remember last time, i had slow internet, well.. its happened again, i get 1meg speeds. got the new Service packs, on vista no idea what the problem is, i used to reboot modem (reset) and that would fix it for about an hour or so, but now that just doesn't work anymore.
Any ideas?

Before you get too carried away I would check with your ISP and make sure it isn't a problem on their end, such as a lot of traffic.
If resetting the modem used to fix it, the problem has to be between the ISP and the modem. If it turns on not to be a problem with your ISP, you might want to check to make sure there's no damaged coax or splitters going to the modem, and consider replacing the modem. |

When you take a speedtest, it always gives you a couple servers to pick from to test. It'll tell you how much load each of the servers are on. When you took the second test, the servers were probably a lot more under load, and not your actual speed. Unless you are noticing a drastic change (and it should be extremely slower, 16MB/s to 1MB/s is a HUGE jump) in your internet speed while actually browsing the web, of course. In which case you should just call your ISP. They know more than we do. _________________

um, speedtest.net doesn't give you a load.
Probably because each server there is on a hilariously fat pipe that's probably load balanced across whatever servers are there. I'd be surprised if any provider there couldn't deliver hundreds upon hundreds of mbit/s, if not in the gigabit range. It's more than likely impossible to ever 'out bandwidth' one of the servers there, considering they can drop full speeds to corporate lines.
Hell, my ISP is the NY server. |

Or if this has been happening slowly, you might want to get a registry cleaner. _________________

Unless Windows is bitching about the hive size, it's not the registry, unless you went in and fucked up a setting. |
