I use realtek for my audio, I installed the HD Audio drivers, and I can't seem to get stereo mix working.

Right click this thing , and open volume control.
Go to options>properties.
Make sure your mixing device is set to realtek.

Try customizing your notification area system icons (Control Panel > Notification Area Icons > System Icons). Switch to icon view instead of category view.

There is a difference between RealTek AC97 audio and RealTek HD Audio
Go to Control Panel and look for a red speaker icon, if you see it that's the HD volume panel.
