I've loved 3d games ever since I realized you could easily run them in that mode, even once refusing a superior ATi card simply to use one that supported 3d (nvidia is the only brand that makes their own stereo drivers.)

It's really quite simple, however nvidia has only ever supported 3d on vista and now windows 7.

If you have win 7/ vista, and wish to use them, you can find them on the nvidia website.

However, while searching for something more compatible with the VR920, I stumbled across some drivers that seem to work just as well:
iz3d [dot] com [slash] t-dcdriver [dot] aspx

They ARE pay to use, but the anaglyph (red/bue, red/ cyan, etc etc glasses) are completely free.
I've only had minor problems with some distortion (spore) and such, but other wise it works wonderfully.

I haven't taken any recent 3d photos, but do have some old photos I took while playing Mirror's Edge.

Here are some examples:

[EDIT] After several vain attempts to get past the URL filter system, I'm going to just try one.

[EDIT+] Nevermind, I'll just get Kent to do it.

NOTE: These images were taken on old drivers, with a super-crappy integrated graphics card. When I get around to it, I'll post some images from my 9800 GTX+ with L4D.

Not in realtime...

Also, they look LOADS better with antialiasing, I recommend 8x.

Free from Rainbow Symphony, if you can afford two stamps.

www . rainbowsymphony . com / freestuff . html

Also, screenshots are a pain, as the backbuffer shows black on DX and OGL, and DXhooks only display one eye.

not really, since I believe it requires the frames to be alternated to work properly, so your FPS is basically halved.

60hz = 30fps each.

Yes in real time, and it was the same frame duplicated twice, to look just like that.

I saw it on OCN.net

That's in polarized glasses in page flip mode or shutter glasses.

If you have anaglyph and suitable hardaware, it will turn 120 FPs into 60 fps with stereo, combining the images to each eye.

I'm getting a VR920, which is a stereoscopic 3d headset with 640x480 screens (yes I know, but for the price of under $1000 that's good) and head-tracking.

[edit]
Optimised anaglyph stereo images from L4D on the way. Again, kent's being enslaved here.

The Iz3d drivers can 'optimise' stereo anaglyphs which means they make reds slightly yellow and blugreens slightly red, making the overall stereo effect much greater.

Also, photobucket resized them, original rez was 1600x900.

Yay! The 1600x900 looks better, however photobucket won't let me do that :/

Like I said, just grab the free drivers from the iz3d website, the images I linked up here were made with those running.

Nvidia works better sorta, but only on one or two games.

Great guide. I'll have to use this sometime at my friend's house. He's got L4D Smile
