I recently have built a new computer, and installed vista on it, so far everything is working great, except for ONE thing.
The Downloads.
The downloads are really slow, on my old computer (windows XP) the downloads would hit a nice 200KBps for downloads from any site, but on this new computer, it hits about 80kbps. and stays there.
i am completely clueless as to why this happens, all my drivers are up to date aswell. I'm on the Optus Fusion $99 Plan.
I have the DG834v3 Modem, and am connected through ethernet.
my computer has
intel core 2 duo E8400
8gigs of ram
500g hard drive
260gtx video card
and the p5q pro turbo mobo.
i have no idea why so slow, any ideas?
ty in advance.

Start Windows Update. If it has something to update, let it. If not, then you have the latest service pack. If you do have the latest service pack, then call your ISP. Computer performance shouldn't affect download speed anyway, unless the computer is really, really, really, really bad, which isn't the case here.

Well, I've installed Vista Service Pack 1 and 2, and it doesn't seem to have really helped in anyway, Does anyone have any ideas?

Oh, Well i did a Speed-test, and i got 0.73MBPS DL/ 0.19KBPS UL.
On my previous computed, i got, 7.23MBPS DL/ 2.34MBPS UL
As you can probably see, there is a HUGE difference, oh and i do not have a network card installed on this computer, but then again, i didn't have one installed on the other computer as well.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/574098661.png < That's today's.

EDIT: I'm downloading a World of Warcraft patch which is 1.2gig, i try downloading from the downloader, and it just stops at 80KBPS.

Contact your ISP. A new computer should not affect internet speed.

Unless you get a super ancient modem, any modem you would get these days has the capability of speeds much higher than you'll order from your ISP. Plus, he got a new computer, not a new modem.

Bounce your router and modem, what chipset is this that you're on?

It may just be your ISP and bad timing.

Bounce my router and modem?(Not sure what you mean by that.) I have a router/modem,(Optus version) Net-gear DG834GSPv3, and no, it hasn't been changed since my old computer.

Ok, i will try that now.

Edit:Well it seems to have worked.. a bit, their is a small speed increase.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/574242760.png

Edit 2: Download speed has substantially increased as well, up to 160KBPS now, and still rising, But it's still not even that close to its original of about 400+ KBPS...
But this is better than nothing, thank you all for your help.

I see.. Thanks.
The new problem:
It disconnects every 20minutes to one hour.
ICS = OFF
Service Packs 1 + 2 = Got them
Yay, more and more problems cropping up!
