|
|
Okay so I just downloaded Firefox 3.5 on both of my laptop and I just noticed the memory leak on it is crazy...
Just 1 window open is like 80k and with 2 windows open, it's 150k.
But with 1 IE 6.0 open it's like only 20k and with 2, it's 42k.
Is there anyway to help stop this memory leak?

You aint seen anything man. In my task manager I have it showing page file usage along side the ram usage (processes tab). Earlier today i ran a youtube video that was 5min long and the page file was running at 900mb. Thats more then most games will run.

this will make it worse, probably.
FF is very aggressive with how it keeps shit in memory, though it does have a sort of soft limit to it. Chances are that it's something other than browser leaking memory, like flash, java, or an extension.

Firefox has a feature that keeps the last ten pages you visited still open in case you go back to them. This causes huge memory leaks. This has been in like Firefox 2.5 or something and on. It isn't worth using any older version, and any version newer will have the same problem. Use a different browser. I use Opera. It is faster, uses less memory, and has most of the Firefox add-ons already built-in.

I only got faggot Plus installed and Personas.
Right now, it's 37k with only 1 window opened.
and @pacco, I just downloaded Opera, do you mind telling me any tweaks that can make my browsing a little bit more better?

Go to preferences>advanced>Downloads and uncheck the box that says "Hide file extentions commonly used with Opera." then type 'torrent' in the box (without apostrophes) and find the thing in the list that says torrent. Click it and click edit. The field that has the choice "Open with default application" might already have your default torrent application filled in in gray. If so, select that bubble. If not, then select "Open with other application" and find the program you download torrents with.

Is that all for Opera or is there more?
And is there a way to stop FF from storing the last ten pages visited?

I believe there is a setting to adjust how much it caches in about:config
I doubt you are really leaking memory unless the usage is going up and up with no end in sight. 150mb isn't really anything to worry about...

Isn't all FF versions the same since they still use the same storing the last ten pages use?
Isn't that what causing the FF memory leakage?

Uninstall all of your shitty fucking addons, THEY ARE WHAT CAUSE SEVERE MEMORY LEAKS. With these addons ( faggot Plus, faggot Plus Element Hiding Helper, FEBE, Personas, SmarterFox, User Agent Switcher, Web Developer, WebMail Notifier, and youtubemp) I run around 71k memory usage with firefox 3.5.3
Uninstall your useless addons and enjoy a more snappier firefox.

The only thing you can really do is turn off the *holds last 10 pages* thing or restart firefox after a good few flash based vids are ran. The real thing that makes FF turn into an evil ram whoring program is flash based videos. Veoh, youtube, anything of the sort.

Can clearing cache and cookies solve at least part of the problem?

Can clearing cache and cookies solve at least part of the problem? | That would solve the problem, but why bother when it is easier to just exit Firefox and open it back up again?
Either way, you don't even have to deal with this problem with Opera :\
