Used to work, I don't know what happened but it stopped.
I have a HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment Notebook PC.
I've tried changing the playback devices, but I don't think it's helping. Sound is still off with all startup programs running.

Try updating your driver? Or maybe it is disabled.

Contact the people you bought it from. If it is new, it is likely some hardware error. i.e. the speakers are broken.

Roll back the audio drivers. Realtech drivers tend to fuck things up if you dont download them through windows update. And if you did then they just suck period. Roll them back.

What does that mean?
Edit: In device manager> Sound, video and game controllers> Bluetooth-handsfree audio, bluetooth stereo audio, HD audio device and IDT Hd audio codec.

If it's new just take it back and ask for a exchange. Stop wasting time and trying to fix on a new product.

I'll do that as a last resort.

The only thing he can't do if it still doesn't work as of right now is tell us the computer name + model number so we can find the drivers for him.
Just cause it's a new laptop doesn't mean they already installed the latest version of drivers for you.

If you updated the drivers the option does become available. It will roll back to the default ones from windows.

Plug a set of headphones into it - does sound come out of them?
How long ago did you get it? How long ago did the sound stop working? Have you installed anything before it stopped working? Also try uninstalling the device and rebooting so it (attempts to) reinstall the drivers, it may ask for a disc, use it if you have one, find the drivers online if you don't.
