|
|
Recently Micro$oft forced it's Messenger users to upgrade to messenger 2009. To me, and my friends, 2009 version is far too laggy, bloated, ugly and bulky and we prefer 8.1.
In Micro$oft windows Vista I can get around this forced upgrade by using compatibility mode for Windows Server 2003 Service pack 1, however, my friend is using Windows XP and cannot locate this option.
only with Windows Server 2003 SP1 compatibility mode will Live Plus version 8.1 work without the forced upgrade.
Is there a way to implement the Windows Server 2003 Service pack 1 compatibility mode in Windows XP? Or, if you are smart ... is there a better way to spoof the windows version or in any other way prevent the forced upgrade? (besides the use of virtual machines or actually installing a different OS )
any registry edits / Hex work arounds etc? Thanks!!
p.s there may be a reward if you're helpful

| If your worried about msn being suckish because it is, get pidgin multi messenger. Light weight and does everything. 1 process and uber low usage compared to msn.

it lacks voice support I thought,
well I'll try it out thank's
also pidgin lacks handwriting and does not work with msn plus live so it doesn't really have anything neat about it.

It's better than allocating half your system resources to a fucking IM client.

I figured it out, just hex edit the messenger exe and locate the ASCII string "winnt" and edit that to "win98" and tada.
some hackers you guys are geesh!!! i figured it out without you.
and actually just to be clear, one does not NEED to change winnt into win98, the string can be anything 5 characters long so long as it is not winnt. You can put horse there and it will block the forced upgrade.

| also if anyone finds my hack method a bit messy and want to use 8.1 instead of 2009 there is another method out there which uses ResHack to change the version info of messenger.
