I'm currently trying to help my friend with his problem. He has one of those wifi usb sticks and a wireless router, however, he can't get internet access on his ipod from his router. The first problem was that his network wasn't even on the list of available networks but he changed the connection type from infrastructure to ad hoc, and the ipod picked up on the signal but when we joined the network it showed signal bar strength but a message kept coming up saying he wasn't connected to the internet. Also if he changes the type to ad hoc he doesn't have internet either. Is there any way of using an ad hoc connection to work with an ipod touch?

Nothing has to be changed, your friend's itouch should be able to pick up the signal from the router.

If his usb wifi stick works then his router is fine and there's something wrong with his itouch.
