|
|
Well I've noticed its been a month or two now that my internet connection is sometimes really slow or fast
It gets better for like half the day if I unplug my ROUTER and wait 5 minutes and plug it back in
Not just with my computer but also with stuff like ipod, or xbox 360 live
For an example, I try to sign into live and it will give me a error like my router is not accepting DNS or something
Or going on the ipod it will take 5 years to stream a video but
Then I replug, 5 Minute wait and it works fine
Is my router just messed?
Can i fix this somehow
maybe a setting

Nothing is wrong, nothing is messed up. Routers, just like any piece of hardware, don't work as well after they have been running for 3 days than if they have just been turned on. You can buy a more powerful router, but it would be redundant as your current of works just fine.

it's not, i don't know where he got the idea that a router can become 'tired' and perform significantly less efficiently after a few days

In terms of hardware, routers are basically just a bunch of transistors. They don't get tired or slow down - they either work or they don't. However, they do run software (technically firmware) and if it's badly written it could be causing minor memory leaks and small performance issues that build up over time, causing your router to perform badly or perhaps even lock up.

A router is basically a computer... a slow small computer (technically, depending on your definition of a computer).
But back to your problem, for some reason... Everytime my internet is slow i contact comcast, and they tell me to unplug and replug my router.
Works perfectly after that... (but this is only once a month or so.) so if it works, just do it.
