Just showed up in my downloadable updates. Any big changes? I'll report back with what I notice after installation.

It's always recommend to download every new service pack. SP2 for vista fixes and patches a lot security files which most of them are important to be fixed. It also add some programs like malicious removal tool and some updated for IE....etc.
Also, some games like GTA IV don't work untill you install SP2. So this service pack is good to get, download and install.

while that's true, he should still be cautious because many, if not a few, are having trouble with SP2, like frequent crashes or some programs not running properly anymore, lose of data or even in some cases SP2 makes the computer unbootable.

True, like SP3 with Windows XP. But there are updates that patch those bugs. That's why it's always recommened to install the SP and to make sure your computer has the latest updates from Microsoft.

There are like over 700 fixes in Vista SP2, with most of them in the background.
Also I've heard that if your system has issues installing SP2, then it won't even show up on Windows Update.
