Well my graphics card sucks...It can't use directX9.0c, so I need to downgrade my directX9.0c to 8.1. But it can't overwrite it...
Can I get some help on how to downgrade my DirectX9.0c to DirectX8.1 without reformatting and I also don't have the CD. |

There is a freeware software called "DirectX Eradicator 2.0", download it from softpedia.

Do NOT do this! It's backwards compatible.
Your video card will render whatever API the program uses, assuming it supports it. If it uses DX8, then it will render DX8.
All you're going to accomplish by trying this is potentially fucking shit over.

actually it works for all source engine games :]
and actually it is not mat_dxlevel cause you can't change it once your in game you add it to the starting properties.

wtf did I just tell you.
It's backwards compatible, just because you have DirectX9 SOFTWARE does not mean that's all you can use. If you have the latest version of the DX redistributable than that is all you need. |

How did u get DX9c if your card cannot support it? I though it was software/hardware based, if your card cant support it you shouldn't be able to install it... I thought.

you don't.
the software level of DX installed can be different from what your hardware actually supports.
Say your card supports 8.1, just because you have DX9 installed does not mean you can use it (as you have no hardware support), however anything 8.1 and lower will work fine. |

are you seriously ignoring everything I type or do you just not understand?
THE DIRECTX SOFTWARE IS BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE, IF YOUR HARDWARE DOES NOT SUPPORT DX9 THEN YOU CAN NOT RENDER DX9, OBVIOUSLY. !!HOWEVER!! just because you have a certain software version installed (like DX9 for example) this does NOT mean that you can't use previous versions that your hardware supports (like DX8)
That is all there is to it. |
