I was wondering if anyone could help me to find a way to prevent other computers in my network from accessing fragile information from my computer.

The computer I'm using is operating with Vista, and the other computers are Linux and XP.

I already disabled file-sharing and removed some entry in the registry that allowed others to manipulate it. But I'm positive it's not enough. Maybe there's some software or tweaks someone could share?

any decent AV should come with a firewall that would do that.

Any firewall should do the job pretty well.

If you're that worried about your parents finding your porn, put it in a Truecrypt volume.

Using a TrueCrypt volume is a little overkill for hiding pr0n, unless it's weird stuff or something illegal... in which case you don't want a TrueCrypt volume, you want a psychiatrist.

The simple answer to keeping your machine secure is to disable all unused services, run a good firewall (+AV if necessary) and keep up to date with security patches. Also, use a decent secure password over 7 characters long - the bigger the better.

Well, on your router you can set up a password for it, just go to CMD and type in Ipconfig then the default gate way, type that into your address bar in your web browser that will bring you to your router home page, your password is on a sticker of your router (deppending) lynkys default is admin for the name and admin for the password, net gear is admin for the name and password for the password, set up a wpa2 key, and then you need to make sure all your computers and wirless devices in the house use the same WPa2 settings with the same pass phrase.
