Like i have always heard that having like 8GB of ram was useless. But like for me, i use after effects and sony vegas. Would that 8GB of ram REALLY improve or at least help? I currently have 4GB of DDR2 800.

You can only use more than 3.5 GB of RAM on a 64 bit system, so it is only useless if you don't have a 64 bit system.

Depends what you are doing. Server? Probably. Normal desktop? 4gb is probably fine.

Depends on what you're using that computer for... Gaming should only have 2~3gb. 4 GB and up, I suggest using x64 because it handles memory very well... Say, you're running a server with thousands of users on, would require ram that's larger than 4GB.

If you're running a 32-bit system you can't use more than 4GB anyway. I had read a benchtest on this recently though, and the performance between the system running 8GB, 4GB, and 2GB wasn't significant enough to see a noticeable performance increase/decrease.

If you aren't using it, it's not doing anything.
4 gigabytes is more than enough for almost everyone.

I have 6GB DDR3 to take full advantage of triple channel.
Unless your doing any extreme video editing/photo shopping/programming/ game making/ rendering, then 4GB is fine.
Nowa days I would never go lower then 4GB...

I lol'd.

To op:
I wouldn't ever install more than 4 gb if it's not ddr3 becuase if it is then it will surivive longer in the hard computer world. Be sure to pick mems that supports the future boards Wink

edit :
You wont use up more than 4 gb now but it will be an good investment if you pick mems that are supported by the future mbs.
Ah u get the point.
