When I plugged the USB port of a portable hard drive into my computer, all of the lights on the motherboard lit up and every fan went to full speed, and keyboard, monitor and mouse stopped working. I had heard that static electricity on a USB port can lead to static damage to the motherboard so it scared me a lot and I quickly turned the PSU switch off. Upon unplugging the portable hard drive and turning the computer back on it's behaving normally again (which is a gigantic relief)... what could've caused that? _________________
