I bought a 5 pack of memorex CD-RW's at Wal-Mart the other day, thinking "hey, I could use the same one over and over again if it's re-writable" so I went ahead and bought it. And to get to the point, I was writing a Gparted liveCD to it, and watched the "Writing Light" on my CD drive flash, along with the CD in one. I used MagicISO, which I had no problems with before (please don't recommend other programs because I don't give a shit) and even said itself it was writing to it. When it was done, it ejected the disk. I was going to boot it up in VM to make sure it works (Virtual Box, just to be exact) but realized that the "What do you want to do with the following device: Blank CD."
I remembered burning that CD... so I went to check if the files are there. OMGWTF BLANK. There are no specific warnings on the back of the CD pack about any CD spinning speeds or whatever.

Question is: Why the hell are the files not there after they are written to the CD?

Extra info:
Memorex 5PK
High Speed CD-RW
12x
700mb
80min

If the file you are trying to burn is actually smaller than the blank disc, then you should be able to see a different color shade indicating the disc was written.

Also if your running on a VM, you don't even need to burn a disc, just create a ISO image and run from your hard drive.

I think he meant that the problem was with the cd, not the files

That's why I said if the files are actually burn to the disc, the color shades will be different.

I'm assuming you mean the shades of color on the bottom of the disc, right?

I have this same problem with MagicISO. I haven't tried others yet, but currently the only thing I can burn to with it is a DVD, else it'll show up as blank when I put the disc back in.

I know, but I didn't feel like rebooting to test the results.

@SF
I'll try some other ones, considering you had problems with it too.

How long had you had your burner in the computer? The burner in my laptop crapped out after about a year and it said that it was burning but it just wasted CD's and the CD's had nothing on them. Maybe the laser in your burner got old, check with the manufacturer.

Near impossible.
Built last october (2008) I think it would be fine, considering a three year old PC with the EXACT SAME specs can still write CD's good.

I have no problems writing to CD-R's.

Every time I've used a RW I get a crapload of problems and other things. A similar issue made me throw out the pack and just buy Rs from then on.
