I'm using XP Pro which I believe is 32 bit
Can I still download the 64 bit windows 7 or do you previously need Vista for that? _________________

If your using a 64-bit processor then you would be able to download 64-bit Windows 7. And no, you don't need Vista already. _________________

you cant update from XP to Windows 7
so it doesn't really matter which OS you had before Windows 7
only thing that will matter is your processor, and most of core 2 Duo and recent processors are x64 compatible. |

Let's lay it out in list form.
With 32-bit Windows XP Pro, you
- can download 64-bit Windows 7
- cannot upgrade to 64-bit Windows 7
- can fresh install 64-bit Windows 7, if your processor supports the x86-64 instruction set

Windows XP cannot do a upgrade direcly to Windows 7.
You will have to do a fresh install and it does not matter whether it's
32bit or 64bit.
Windows Vista users can upgrade to Windows 7 |

If you can't download Win7 go on google and search for Windows Seven Remix. It looks similar to Win7 but ins't exactly it, I am running it, and it is pretty nice. _________________

It seems some of you are making others getting confused between downloading and install.
Download: To grab a file off the internet or another location such as a network.
e.g. I use my PC to download Windows 7 into a folder on my computer.
Install: To extract individual files to a system from the package download from the internet.
e.g. I install the copy of Windows 7 (downloaded from earlier) to one of the hard drives on my computer.
Users with XP or Vista may install a copy of Windows 7 via a virtual machine. |
