What does Cheat Engine depend on to run? Somehow my computer got fubared and 1/3 of my applications won't run for some reason. My best guess at this point is Microsoft.NET, Visual C++ Redist, DirectX, and/or the registry got messed up. Other applications that won't load include Steam games (the Steam client itself seems to load though) and Spore.

Oh, and this is my computer: http :// secure.newegg. com /WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=7725125
I don't see any error messages when I try to load certain applications. They just fail to start.

Cheat Engine requires administration rights
perhaps you're running as limited user

Nope, I'm the admin on this machine. All my applications were working fine a month ago, and sometime in the past month something screwed up my settings. I just need a clue to go by so I can better diagnose what's going on. Apparently IE (32 bit version only) was also having trouble loading but it worked again after a bit of registry cleaning. All my hardware drivers are up to date and there's nothing that's out of order in Device Manager.

also, my usual advise: If you're running an anti-virus or firewall program, uninstall them, it solves a lot of problems.

I've got Kaspersky disabled for now and cleaned a lot of crap out of my registry. Still no luck yet. I try to run as little as possible at a time.
I would also appreciate an answer to my earlier question: does Cheat Engine depend on DirectX, Visual C++, or any other interfaces?

no, cheat engine can run standalone, all the dependencies are build into the exe

Very strange, then.
Edit:
Finally! I'm sure cleaning up the registry helps the system run smoother, but the kicker was:
sfc /scannow
Apparently I had a few corrupt/missing system files, but I was able to get them all straightened out.
