How about putting the "holes" infront of the render and blurring the render?

If he blurs the render, the focal point will be the bg, and i guess he wants the render to be the focal point?

But that should give the effect that the render is farther than those holes.
(I'm assuming that he wants an effect that the guy is shooting at our direction.)

Oh, the "holes" was just me experimenting.
I was just kinda going for a colorful feel in the beginning, the render was just a second thought.
Most of my stuff ends up really dark, or lacking a palette to be proud of. This seemed like a step in the right direction...
Anyways, I guess I'll try to get better at smudging. I just don't feel like it flows enough to smudge. *shrug*
