|
|
For anyone who cares, I have some free advice and a bit of a statement about a few internet browsers.
"Do you agree?" as my question to generate the thread, as well as "Actually, for me..."
I've been using Firefox for a long time. I recently updated it to 3.5, now that it's official and not beta. Of course, I then encountered a bug with logging on websites. Now every time I have to log into one of the many sites I am a member on, I have to manually type it in. I have since uninstalled Firefox in search of a better browser. I immediately looked at Internet Explorer, seeing as it's automatically required for my system to work. (I'm pretty sure Internet Explorer is somehow used by the computer aside from me actually using it myself?)
Internet Explorer is a bit slow. But my biggest reason for moving on was the Favorites Bar. You know the bars across the top? One of them has the word/button Favorites on it. That's all. You click it, it shows links from the Favorites Bar folder. Even when you disable the bar, it remains. It just hides the other links. It's really stupid and inconvenient for SWF files, where it makes the games smaller. I also want to remove the bar with tabs, but it won't let me do that.
I tried Google Chrome next. I really didn't get to test its speed, as it was just too different. There were like NONE of the bars at the top, not even the bar with "File Edit View Favorites etc." You had to actually open a NEW TAB to go to Favorites! Too incovenient, so I moved to desperate measures. I installed and am currently still using Opera 9.64. It's a little slow, but it's still faster than Internet Explorer, and it remembers my logins. And even when I'm actually logged out of somthing, I can press one button and it logs me in. I despise the fact that Opera 9.64 has no spellcheck, otherwise it seems pretty good. I tried Opera Beta 10 for fun. It had a spellchecker, but it was a bit buggy with the logins.
I haven't tried Safari, but that's for when EVERY SINGLE OTHER BROWSER is bad in too many ways.
(Without us discussing this, I never use Apple products.)
I am curious what others think of the browsers (and if anyone knows a way to get rid of either of the two aforementioned bars in Internet Explorer).

Firefox is by far the best imo.
IE is just crap.
Opera.. it's okay.
Chrome.. may be fast, but way to different for someone who doesn't like change.
Safari.. can't say I've used it enough to say anything about it.

The differences between browsers is being way overblown.
Use what you want, and quit making such a big deal out of it.
I use IE because that is what I am used to. Sometimes I use Chrome.

Not true, press Ctrl + B.

Still, Chrome was way too different from the others.

Firefox has a very aggressive cache system, hence you believing Opera is "a bit slower"; personally, I find the cache system too aggressive, to the point where links I frequent won't update as they should.
Regardless, you can modify the Opera cache system to where you'd want it to be.

Its all a matter of personal opinion.
I love having a multitude of features available at whim, without having to search through shitty 3rd party faggots' shitty plugins that'll probably cause memory leaks and bog down my shit.
I use IE over FF if anything is amiss with Opera, just because its there and its simple. Besides, everytime I see firefox I think about the multitude of fucks who go on about shit they don't know anything about. Its like the fucking Family Guy of browsers. Fuck Family Guy.

I've noticed that a little when testing things out on my site with IE8.

http://acid3.acidtests.org/
Firefox 3.0.11 gets 71/100, which fails pretty hard
Firefox 3.5 gets 93/100, which is certainly better.
Chrome 2.0.127.33 gets 99/100 or 100/100 but still doesn't match the reference rendering perfectly.
IE7 gets a 12/100. Srsly.
IE8 gets a 20/100. When asked, Microsoft said they weren't trying for standards compliancy, much to the frustration of every web designer ever.
Safari gets 100/100. Props to them, regardless of my dislike of Apple.
Opera 9.64 gets 85/100.
Opera 10.00 gets 100/100. Props to them as well, however this is only a beta release.
Out of all the browsers, personally, I see Chrome as the most visually appealing browser but can't stand to be away from firefox for too long.
Also, I installed about 5 browsers (including updates) I don't much care for for this. Damn you curiosity.

Indeed, they're both based on webkit. Chrome still doesn't have the acid3 test down 100% however.
