|
|
So I just received x2 512MB RAM, and it is a perfect fit for my computer, but when I take out my old RAM, (128 MB) and install both onto it, my computer can't go up to the Logon screen. It says something like pick last good configuration and I tried it all but none can work. but when I leave one 512MB RAM and put back the 128MB one, it works. I think it is because when the x2 512MB is in it, Hal.DLL is missing because it might be installed in my 128 one.
Any Suggestions, help or even an explanation?

LOL AT HAL.DLL...
Is your ram DDR2? If you have a pair you need to put it in a certain way.

Nothing is wrong with it, your installation is corrupted on your hard drive, pop in your repair disc for windows or reformat your hard drive.
Refer to google for any more questions to do with HAL.dll its a quite simple problem really.

Sounds like you somehow managed to hose your windows install?
I'd be weary of that RAM if it caused it, check it out with Memtest86+

@Saf nothing is wrong with my Hal.DLL. It is the RAM when I put both 512MB in it, it won't even load to the log on screen and it says something likw hal.dll is missing. But if I leave one 512MB ram and put in my 128MB also, it works. So I think my 128 has something the 512 doesn't.

Erm, RAM is volatile memory, meaning nothing is stored on it. Once it has no power going to it, the memory on it is erased.
I would try taking out your current 512 module and replace it with the other 512 module. If that doesn't work, it is a bad stick.

So I tried putting both 512 RAM together and it worked and I logged on, but after the first 10 secs of me logged on, it restarted abruptly and as it was going to the logon screen it said that the system processes didn't work like services.exe, lsass.exe,svchost.exe,spoolsv.exe and more.
any help? Because I think my computer can't handle 1Gig RAM..

Sounds to me like either a bad stick or mobo. The OS tries to load hal.dll onto the RAM at startup, the DIMM the OS tries to load it onto is faulty, looses hal.dll and causes a BSODs or restarts. In the case of a bad mobo, the OS might try to load hal.dll onto a DIMM then fails to be able to retrieve it.
But, yeah, the model/brand information saf requested would help.

I've seen this happen before...
I was watching a friend install new RAM on his 50 year old ancient $50 PC.
He tried installing RAM, it didn't fit but he didn't care because it was free...
Then he put his old RAM back, and when turned on PC, it booted into XP as usual. He then restarted the computer when a system file was missing...
Again he didn't care but I was like WTF??? So yeah. he got a new C2Q System... True story...

1. Try booting with ONLY the stick that causes trouble.
2. MEMTEST86+, LET IT RUN FOR A WHILE
