I get an error when trying to install CE 5.4, also happens with 5.5:
I have turned off my antivirus (ESET NOD32 Security Suite Business Edition) and currently have Windows XP SP3. I turned off ESET by right clickign the tray icon -> 'Disable Antivirus and Antispyware protection' -> 'Do not filter network traffic (Disable Firewall)' and that doesn't seem to work. Do I have to disable it completely through Task Manager? Every time I do that it disconnects my IE for a while. This is also my personal computer and the only account on here, therefore I do have an administrator account.
Thanks.

Ok, first go to ESET and restore it from qaurantine. But, Instead of only disabling it, Go to task manager and end process egui.exe. After you have done that, remove any previous installers you had, And RE-DL CE.

Can you explain a little more about that?

Go to ESET then go to Tools Then go to Quarantine and restore CE from quarantine. If you cant find it, just go to task manager and press CTRL ALT ESC. Look at the processes, and end the process egui.exe, then try to install CE.

Ah, this is what I did:
Added Cheatengine55.exe to my exclusions
Went to Task Manager
Ended egui.exe
Tried to end ekrn.exe (Doesn't let me)
So I proceeded to try and install CE, still get the same error.
So.. should I go into safemode and install.. =\

Yeah, i guess you should try that, unless DB comes along.
EDIT: actually, some anti-viruses disable the actual installer. try completely removing the CE installer the re-dling. If that doesnt work, try safe mode.

Yes, it worked. I temporarily disabled it, delete the old installers and downloaded a fresh one and it installed. Thanks, +rep.
