|
|
Okay,another noob-type question...
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.
On the side closest to me are 4, um, objects:
An on/off indicator, a headphone jack, what looks like a microphone jack, and some strange card-like device. I can pull it out, and it's almost as thin as my fingernail. The top of it says www.dell.com, the middle has Delll on it, and the bottom has a combination of letters and numbers that I suspect are unique to each laptop. Does anyone know what it is before I have to put up pictures?

| I'm guessing it's one of those PCMIA cards used for 3g internet.

May it be a PCMCIA card slot filler?
If there are numbers, post them.

Wait...what are the numbers for? Are they just model number/type?
EDIT: The slot that it fits into says:
SD/MMC - MS/Pro
What is it?
I looked up PCMCIA cards, it doesn't quite look like them...

If you have the model #, that'll be great.. there should be a sticker on it.

| I'm thinking it's just something that was in the media card reader (because that's what the slot is on the laptop you described). Either a placeholder or an actual memory card.

| I think it's just a piece to block the memory card ports from any fingers or dust or anything getting inside....

| That's where you would put a wireless internet card, if you had one. I'm pretty sure, I have a Dell laptop in my house, and there was a card in it just like you described, but we use a wireless card in that laptop.

He said SD/MMC - MS/Pro , those are memory cards for a phone or digital/video camera...

I'm sorry, I didn't read it correctly. Thanks.

Here's what it says:
www.dell.com
DELL
KM518
So...It's nothing vitally important?

| Nope. Just for viewing files on media cards, if you don't need to you won't ever need to use them.

That is just a dummy card inserted to protect the reader from dust and other foreign objects. Now if you take a look at the right side of your laptop (where the CD drive is) there should be another cover (rectangular), Push that in and there is your 34mm Express card slot.
Unless you got a cheap model then maybe you not have it.
