|
|
I currently am running Windows 7..Build 7000. But. I really don't want it anymore. The only reason I've been using it is because of the sleek looks. I wish to get rid of it because it isn't compatible with any of the games that I play, nor most of the programs that I run.
Yes yes, I'm an idiot because it's the only OS on my system at the moment, and I have no Windows XP backup disc. /facepalm
Anyways, I know about Windows Vista. I just don't want to go down a wrong path downloading that. It took me 1 hour to get my wireless internet running for this PC, so I don't want to undergo that stress with another OS. So, I've decided to return to my original OS, XP. But. I don't know which one I had. Lmfao. D:
So. Should I download Windows XP Professional, or Windows XP Home Edition?!?
Or should I take the chance and download Windows Vista? I'm stumped. And I have a Download for FF7 going right now, which I REALLY don't want to find that it isn't compatible. Help?

You should download neither because it's illegal and its discussion isn't allowed on these forums.
Go to your computer's manufacturer's website and download the drivers you need, either for XP or Vista (32 or 64-bit, depending). Install either operating system (if everything works on 7, there are drivers for Vista) and install the drivers. Simple as that.
If the wireless adapter is separate from the computer (not original), you'll need to track down the driver for that as well (its manufacturer's page).

I didn't know that. I guess I will then. Thanks.

Yeah, the reason you didn't have to do that for Windows 7 is probably because your LAN driver was installed with it and it got drivers through Windows Update.

I've gone to the website, entered the requested information, and they sent me to a page. Now, should I go under the Windows Vista section and download all of the drivers they show there?

If you're going for Vista, then yes. If there are more than one version for a driver, just get the latest stable one. You don't need most of the utilities they're going to have up there, though.

Oh. So after installing these drivers, will I also have to install Vista? Lol. I'm super confused.

You got a brand name computer like Dell, Compaq and so on?
If yes then look around your case for a color sticker. The sticker will tell you which type of Windows you got along with your legit product key.
For laptops it's located at the bottom or in some cases below the battery compartment.
