Ok, so my Friends school laptop wont let him use some keys, including the enter button, and F8, So he cant go in safe mode, and when he tries to boot up, he gets Windows Error Recovery, But he can't get past it, seeing as he cant press enter.

HE CANNOT REFORMAT!!

I REPEAT HE CANNOT REFORMAT!!! HE WILL LOOSE ALL HIS HW!!! He can't see tech support untill Monday.

Thats a tricky one.
You can try using a USB keyboard or such.
That's if the keyboard is at fault, not the OS.

You can also use spacebar at times as a replacement for enter.

i don't know what kind of idiot doesn't back up important stuff, but you could always boot off a linux live distro, copy important shit onto a usb, and then reformat, because you both seem too incompetent to do anything...or go see your tech support.

Windows just detects a new keyboard and it will not recognize it's Japanese unless you specify it.

The symbols above the numbers are in different areas than the US.

??

He starts up his PC and it says a Japaneese Driver Keyboard PS/2 has been installed....

Any help? A USB keyboard would be a drag hooking it up for him in every class, then moving on, etc.

The computer is probably Japanese then. The keyboard layout for a Japanese keyboard and the keyboard layout for an English keyboard is very different. If windows somehow detects the keyboard as being Japanese, it's going to look to windows like the keyboard is Japanese.

According to the HijackThis log, your friend's laptop is running vista and I'd guess the keyboard is indeed Japanese (C:\Program Files\Fujitsu\Fujitsu Hotkey Utility\IndicatorUty.exe , Fujitsu is indeed Japanese).

In XP, at least, to change the keyboard language you'd go to:
Start > Control panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages > Details > Settings
at which point you'd fix the languages accordingly. Look for the vista equivalent to that and do it.

Its not japaneese.
Since when is Fujitsu not a Japanese company?

ITS A ERROR!
What? I told you how to fix it.

We go to the same school, we were in the same house, and this happened to HIM.
No shit.

We have IDENTICAL PC's.
So?

He DOES have an antivirus, he has ESET Smart Security 4
Have you even read any posts in this thread? No one's mentioned anything about a virus, aside from Freak X acting stupid.

Thanks for teaching me about Fujitsu being Japaneese, you got me there. And no, what you said didnt help. I would have said if it was fixed.

It may be a virus changing his settings for all you know. Neutral

I recommend that you boot normally goto run and type MSCONFIG remove all startup crap.. goto the start menu and also remove all startup stuff..reboot.. now goto Computer management->device manager in the Control panel and uninstall the driver for the keyboard ..then find the driver on your computer(you said they where the same computers)and transplant it in his computer. if this does not fix your problem download TeamViewer 4 and repost in this section and i will gladly take a look at your freinds computer Smile

regards BanMe
