|
|
Yeah, I want to get a new one, 'cause my current one doesnt really cool that well. I'm going to buy it from this local computer store PCL and these are the models they've got: http://pclcomputers.nl/produktselectie.asp?catnm=13&type=94
I was thinking about a zalman cooler, but I'm not that good with coolers so i need some help.
I've got an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor.
What's a good one in your opinion?
Edit: Budget is around 50€
Ill also buy some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound _________________

How good does the noctua cool. Do you have like approximate temps?
Also, it isnt that hard to apply a processor cooler, is it? (Just asking to be sure ) |
Yes its amazing.
One of the best or the best cooler. Very quite also. |

Getting it is the easy part, but will it fit?
HSF these days are humongous which I find to be ridiculous, but until fusion cooling come alone then all we can do is continue to use it.
For thermal paste get MX-2, it's better than AS5 |

As far as thermal paste goes, the MX-2 is more impressive than AS5, although OCZ Freeze is worth looking at for fast-acting grease.
The Zalman CNPS9700 (the only Zalman that can decently play a game of catchup with the better coolers) is extremely expensive, especially when putting it in terms of price vs. performance.
On top of the list generated by Rapion (which are all among the best coolers available), you should also see the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 (which I'm sure Zarr will tell you to buy, for good reason too) and the TT Big Typhoon, and the older Big Typhoon. _________________

It will most likely fit in my Antec 300, though I might have to take out my upper fan.
And I'll check the warrenty before placing it _________________

Again I find myself linking to this, which shows OCZ Freeze in second place, whereas MX-2 came in in 10th. I'm not sure if there's any curing time involved, but it's certainly something to consider.

| For stress testing, the only program you're going to want to use is Prime95 (small FFTs). Use Realtemp or Speedfan for checking temperatures. |

Run this simple program.
1. Download/Extract
2. Execute on the amount of cores your cpu has
3. Go to task manager and set affinity for each cpu
4. Set time limit for all execution runs (all be the same)
5. Disable error correcting and let it produce maximum heat
6. Run all the test at once.
If done correctly, you'll see your cpu reach 100% on each core.
Supports Vista 32bit and 64bit |
