Is there any difference in crossfiring two of the same card or using a duel card?

Disregard that, I suck cocks.
Unless I'm wrong, the x2 boards are viewed in the driver program exactly as two separate cards. The rest is up to hardware --clocks, power usage, etc.-- and price, of course.
The rest I can think is that the 4870x2 card would have twice the memory, so if you're using very high resolutions, that's the better choice.

He means like the x2 cards, and those tend to be slightly faster than two separate cards.

The X2 does not have twice the ram. Each GPU only has 1GB to itself and it's not shared, so for them boxes to say 2GB is technically a lie.

No it's not. There's 2GB total on the card. Yes, it will effectively only function as 1GB, but that doesn't mean they should say there's 1GB on the card, as that would be incorrect and also cause you to think there's only 512MB effective memory.

That's correct, but to put 2GB on it will make some think it's 4GB and then they'll start posting threads saying My 32bit OS can only go up to 4GB what happens if I install my X2 which also has 4GB?
Seriously they box needs to be more clear telling the average joe it's 1GB per GPU.

It's all marketing, really. If it sells....
For some reason, I thought the x2 cards were different. Guess I don't know my stuff about them.

I agree they should clarify it, but the average joe isn't buying a $500 video card.
