To be honest it's because consumers are stupid or maybe because it doesn't slow anything down.

A lot of the time it's either pre-installed or is installed with something else.

It's because consumers aren't very technologically advanced and therefore don't understands what's better then what but choose a common, big brand name such as Norton.

It's becuase all stores and most computer builders/sellers supports norton. When buying a computer you will most likely get norton Wink

When ppl see norton everywhere they start to recorginze it and think that it is good by default. And in the future it might even be good, who knows. HAIL NORTON!!

Yeah. Norton comes with pc's nowadays. Norton 360 is 80 bucks while other anti-viruses better than it can sell for 50 or even lower

Well i personally use Nod32, I used to use Smart Security but the firewall gave me problems. But nod is so much better, lol even if they keep norton on their computers when they get a virus more money for me to fix the computer ha-ha.

EDIT: also i forgot to mention why do places like Cnet or review sites give Norton like 5 stars compared to eset or kaspersky that makes me mad...

Because they don't know any better and it's usually pre-installed, or bundled with restore software . I abhor Norton, it's too intrusive and doesn't work worth a damn.

Because if Cnet give a low rating for Norton, then they'll have a difficult time explaining to the consumer why that is so since 99.9% of them worship Norton like a saint or something.

It's because you get Norton free, norton probably pays bestbuy and electronic store's to put norton in because it increases the chance of the consumer buying norton after the 60day trial.
