|
|
ok so every couple of months i have to clean my cpu of dirt and dust because it starts to overheat...my dad did this while i was at school because it overheated the night before and now it wont work here are the symptoms
when i turn it on the monitor doesnt show anything the cpu beeps for about 3 seconds, stops beeping for 2 second, starts beeping again and keeps doing this until i shut it off
this happened when i first transported it to my dads house but the problem that time was where the heat sync was attached to a little chip with the glue/rubber
i removed it and didnt remove the adhesive and put it back on(it would not turn on and it would make the beeping sound), i opened it and cleaned off the muck and reatched the sync and it worked perfectly
any idea, i will be fucked if you guys dont help....

wait...did you remove the adhesive that is in between the heatsink and cpu ?
Try unplugging it, removing and re inserting the ram sticks, and make sure all cables are in properly.

Oh......... thats the problem, you need to buy some more thermal compound and re apply it or your pc wont work. I would strongly not recommend even trying to boot without the compound. Its not very expensive, like $6

Pretty sure best buy would have some, they have a couple listed on their site.

If it were overheating it should get atleast as far as POST before shutting off.
I think it's most likely video card has come loose since you don't see anything and it's managing to beep. Make sure it's in the slot and not caked in dust.

Frostbyt3, they sort of established that they just removed the thermal compound and didn't reapply. Hopefully the CPU is undamaged, I'm thinking it should be.

Get your system manual and read what the code correspondents with that beeping. It gives you the answer for the component that causes that problem. Check BIOS.
(A motherboard makes beeps, in case a particular component does not work properly or it is out, then you need either fix or replace that component.
If a system does not start up and a motherboard does not beep, then it means that a motherboard is "dead".)
