for gaming I'd say XP, as it runs faster and barely uses any RAM or cpu usage

Depends on specs.
If you've got a crappy pc, take XP as Valve said.
If you've got a decent-good pc, take Vista

Yet again, another person that thinks he "knows" Vista.
Vista runs JUST like XP, just works in a different way with RAM and CPU.
It may show you are using more, but in reality, your not.
And it just demands a little bit more from your video card.
I have dualbooted XP & Vista on this rig, and I haven't seen any major difference to be honest.
It's just the eyecandy Microsoft has to offer with Vista.

If you're buying it, Home Premium x64. It really makes no difference (and he didn't ask about getting XP, just between the two versions of Vista).

Retails are a lot more expensive, but if you got Home Premium then you will only get the 32bit media. For 64bit you'll have to call up MIcrosoft and request it (charges will apply). Can't confirm on this, but some say once you got the 64bit disc the COA will not work anymore with the 32bit disc.
As for upgrading from Vista HP to Ultimate...
Open up Windows anytime upgrade and follow the instructions.
Credit card is required and it cost up to $175.

Warez discussion isn't allowed. Make note that you can not upgrade from your 32-bit OS to a 64-bit one, so you have to do a clean install, backing up your files someplace.

Home Premium x64 is prob the best for gaming Ultimate x64 has too much extra crap that takes up RAM... And idk about XP i tried XP x64 on my system is was really slow (I have Phenom II 4.5Ghz and 8GB DRR3 RAM with 4 cards on CrossFireX) i still cant figure out why XP was so slow on my system i guess Vista was made for good spec PC's and XP is for toasters....

The slow speed was probably in your head if drivers were installed. However, XP x64 sucks for its bad driver base and program incompatibility.

There is no OS which is better for gaming, it all depends on your specs.
