Nice read, pretty thorough.

What is sad is how an AMD Phenom II X4 940 (clocked at 3GHz) can't, or in some cases barely, beat out a C2Q Q9400 (clocked at 2.66GHz).

AMD still seems to be a generation behind.

Thanks for the link. While it seems that they do still seem a generation apart (especially considering i7 HT), AMD seems to have gotten back on track, at least a little. Not that it's smooth sailing for them from here on in, far from that, but look at how well the chips overclock compared to the older generations of AMD CPUs. Both Intel and AMD are developing their 32nm chips, but Intel seems to be closer to their release.
I really believe that AMD won't always be the underdog of the competition, and I'd like to see them step up development of the new technology. (This is even considering that AMD had to downsize a little recently because of the whole.. "economy".. thing.)

I liked the way they performed their downsizing. It showed the execs have balls enough to acknowledge the problem and hand out pink slips to save themselves before shit got heavy.

AMD is going to pull some competitive prices, as always.

Does anybody have any tentative prices for the Phenom IIs yet?

275$USD for the BlackBox 940 they used for testing in the article.

From the info Blank said and a bit of the performance graphs I read, the Q9400 seems to still be the better buy, at $270. It's still kind of sad to see that it takes AMD 1 year with their highest-end processor to catch up with a mainstream/high-end Intel processor, and still fall behind a bit.

Still, I think that Intel will drop their prices slightly to tilt the odds in their favor, the price vs. performance of these chips are very close.

Also, what did happen to the Q9450? It was $5/$10 more for double the cache last time I checked.
